What is MIMOSA?

Introduction to MIMOSA

MIMOSA™ is a non-profit association in California, USA with a global membership, focusing on open standards for digital transformation and interoperability in asset life-cycle management. It aims to facilitate critical infrastructure management through standards that enable vendor neutral digital eco-systems that support the creation, federation and management of Digital Twins and enhance Big Data analytics.

MIMOSA Standards and Digital Twins

These standards enable the creation of a Digital Twin, a digital representation of physical assets, facilitating the federation of IIOT and sensor data. This integration is crucial for advanced maintenance strategies like Condition Based Maintenance.

The Open Industrial Interoperability Ecosystem (OIIE)

MIMOSA manages the development of OIIE™ specifications, a framework for industrial digital ecosystems that is built on industry standard Use Cases. These cases outline the requirements for digital solutions, from concept to implementation, and are supported by MIMOSA members.

Collaboration and Piloting

Through partnerships and cloud-based pilot projects, MIMOSA validates the interoperability of systems and applications across industries, focusing on the oil and gas sector as a primary example.

Standards Development and Adoption

MIMOSA plays a role in international standards development, contributing to the ISO 18101 standard for interoperability. It leverages existing standards like ISA-95 and ISO 15926 to avoid duplication of efforts and focuses on solving industry-specific business problems.

Open Standards and Resources

MIMOSA has developed several open standards, such as the Common Conceptual Object Model (CCOM) for asset lifecycle information exchange, and maintains resources like the OSA-CBM for condition-based maintenance.
