LONDON, October 21, 2026 KOIOS and PIDX have formed a strategic collaboration to support the development and adoption of the Petroleum Industry Data Dictionary (PIDD), helping oil and gas organizations exchange data consistently, conform to industry standards and prepare their information for use by artificial intelligence.
Through the collaboration, PIDX members get the additional benefit of access to PIDD through the KOIOS Semantic Data Intelligence Platform. This brings together PIDX’s industry standards expertise and KOIOS’s capabilities for interpreting, mapping, validating and standardizing complex data across systems, organizations and languages.
Oil and gas companies depend on information exchanged between operators, suppliers, service providers and technology partners. Yet the same equipment, material or service can be described differently across and within organizations. Those differences make data harder to match, validate and use with confidence.
PIDD provides a shared framework for describing products and services used across the industry. The partnership will support the development and enrichment of its content while helping organizations apply those definitions to their own data.
Using KOIOS, organizations can map and validate company data against PIDD, support multilingual use and enable machine-readable exchange. This makes industry standards more practical to apply in everyday data workflows, supporting interoperability and more consistent information across the supply chain.
As oil and gas organizations expand their use of AI, the meaning and quality of the underlying data become increasingly important. A product description that a person can interpret may still lack the structure and context a machine needs.
By connecting industry-defined terminology with semantic data intelligence, the partnership aims to make complex information more interpretable across enterprise systems and AI applications. It supports a foundation for AI readiness: data with consistent definitions, standardized attributes and meaning that can be understood and exchanged reliably.
“Industry standards create value when organizations can apply them in their day-to-day work,” said Mimi Stansbury, Chair of the Board, PIDX. “Working with KOIOS will support the continued development of PIDD and give our members another way to use it. Together, we are helping the oil and gas community strengthen data exchange and prepare for an increasingly AI-enabled industry.”
Access to PIDD through the KOIOS platform is available to PIDX members from the announcement of the partnership. The collaboration supports both the dictionary’s continued development and its practical use across the oil and gas industry.
KOIOS is the Semantic Data Intelligence Platform for data-intensive enterprises, regulated organizations, public bodies and complex ecosystems. It transforms fragmented master data into trusted, standards-aligned meaning that people, systems and artificial intelligence can understand and exchange consistently.
Combining international standards expertise, a global concept dictionary and AI-assisted semantic enrichment, KOIOS interprets, maps, validates and standardizes complex data across systems, organizations and languages. The result is interoperable, machine-interpretable data that strengthens governance, regulatory confidence, AI readiness and operational decision-making. KOIOS provides the trusted semantic foundation organizations need to make complex data portable, explainable and ready for action—everywhere, at scale.
PIDX (Petroleum Industry Data Exchange) is a global nonprofit membership organization supporting the development and adoption of electronic business standards for the oil and gas industry. Through collaboration among industry participants, PIDX helps organizations exchange information consistently and improve interoperability across their trading communities.
